# Add an order note box

> Let shoppers leave delivery instructions or a gift message in the cart, saved to the order note.

A note box gives shoppers somewhere to tell you what the order needs, such as where to leave it or what to write on a card. Whatever they type is saved as the cart note and shows on the order in your admin.

## Turn on the note box

1. On **Cart settings**, open **General**.
2. Turn on **Order note field**. It is on for a new store.
3. Choose **Start the note collapsed**:
   - On: the cart shows a link the shopper taps to open the box, which saves room.
   - Off: the box is open from the start, which invites a note but takes more of the cart.
4. Change **Note label** and **Note placeholder** if you like.

5. Select **Save**.

Collapsed, the note is one line in the cart:

Open, it is a box ready for typing:

## Where the note goes

The shopper's note is saved as the order's note, so it shows on the order page in your Shopify admin and in order notifications that include the note.
