Results show the wrong products

Fix results that show the wrong products, the same products for everyone, or a product that never appears.

A quiz recommends the products whose tags match the answers a shopper picked. When the results look wrong, the tags or the products the quiz chooses from almost always explain it.

Check the tags match

  1. Open the quiz, select an answer's question, and note the answer's Tags.
  2. In your Shopify admin, open the products you expect and check they carry the same tags. Case doesn't matter, but spelling does: dry-skin and dry skin are different tags.
  3. Add the missing tags to your products, or change the answers' tags, then save.

The more tags a product shares with a shopper's answers, the higher it ranks. See Set up answers and tags.

Everyone gets the same products

  • Nothing matches, so every shopper sees your fallback products. Check the tags as above. See Set fallback products.
  • There are no fallback products either, so shoppers see the first products the quiz chooses from. Pick two or three fallbacks.
  • Answers have no tags, so they can't make any product rank higher.

A product never shows

Check the product against each of these:

  • It's Active and available on your Online Store sales channel.
  • It's in stock, or the quiz has Recommend sold-out products too on.
  • It's among the products the quiz chooses from: under Results, Recommend from may be set to collections or picks that leave it out.
  • It isn't under Never recommend.
  • With All products, the quiz reads your first 1,000 products. For a bigger catalog, recommend from collections instead.

A set has the wrong product in a step

Each step takes the best match among products that carry one of the step's Product tags. With Also match products to steps by name on, a product whose name contains the step's name can fill it too. Check the step's tags and the product's. See Build a step-by-step set.

The preview shows different products

Until you click through it, the preview answers the first answer of every question. Click through with the answers you want to test. See Preview your quiz.
